UN-005 I Memory (Arg) – REVIV

Some feelings return without warning. A melody brings back a place you thought you’d forgotten; a rhythm changes the way you move through it. On REVIV, Memory (Arg) follows that sensation across three tracks, from a dream you don’t want to leave to a darker place with no clear way out.

“Simone’s dreams” began in Memory’s home studio with his nine-year-old son, Simone. Asked what his dreams might sound like, he responded with pure, instinctive melodies, which Memory shaped with broken rhythms and a vocal moving in call and response. Gradually unfolding without losing its innocence, the track feels like wandering through the inner world of a child dreaming while awake.

Made with Ruxova, “Ceremony” feels organic from the first bar. Fingers slide along the bass guitar strings, turning the movement itself into an effect. Dolphin-like synths seem to call to one another before a silky arpeggio falls softly into place. Warm, aged synthesizers coil around it all in unison.

“Reflections” changes the room. The warmth fades: the bass turns heavy, the rhythm becomes direct, and an alarm-like pulse pulls you down a dark passage where the shadows seem to reflect back at you. The tension of a thriller takes hold, and the track ends without revealing what lies at the end of that passage.

Originally from Argentina and based in Italy since 2013, Matias Gonzalez has carried his early love of progressive music into everything he makes as Memory (Arg). On REVIV, that instinct takes shape through three different moods, held together by his ear for melody, texture and groove.
